Middle East biostratigraphy....

For over 25 years, MicroStrat has been engaged in the biostratigraphic evaluation of Middle East, carbonate-dominant sequences ranging in age from Late Permian to Pliocene and has recently worked with BP on a detailed reservoir field evaluation of the mid-Cretaceous, Mishrif Formation. Over this time specialist expertise has been acquired in the following areas:

  • Permo-Triassic, southern Arabia: based on regional evaluation of wells in Oman, U.A.E., Qatar and Abu Dhabi with detailed analysis of the Khuff - Sudair formations: also single well analyses offshore Yemen.

  • Jurassic - Cretaceous , southern Arabia: numerous wells have been analysed offshore Abu Dhabi, U.A.E, Oman and Yemen, and review of onshore wells Yemen (Block 9).

  • Cretaceous, northern Arabia: onshore wells have been analysed in Kuwait and Iraq involving the detailed biostratigraphic analysis of the Yamama, Mishrif /Rumaila and Hartha formations. Field evaluation of the Mishrif reservoir involved the analysis of over thirty wells leading to the erection of a high resolution biozonation/biofacies scheme which became fully integrated into the field's chrono/sequence stratigraphic and depositional models.

Working in these regions has involved both conventional and thin-section identification of smaller and larger foraminifera, ostracods, calpionellids and calcareous algae.
